Toffee #23

Toffee here, Spoilers ahead for MChr 8-2!

Either way, click/tap the button below for a doodle dump and a word vomit of speculation. If you listen closely, you can hear the creator laughing at my theories. Supplementary disclaimer that none of this is Word of God, or even Word of Dante. (a side note: sometimes the button doesn't work if you're on the home page. Try opening the post in another tab; the button will work then.)

uh, trigger warning for blood I guess?

So guys! How was it?

Anyway, silly doodles are on the top, more serious doodles are on the bottom.

In other news, AJFK;BQH, new episode. So many new things! Lore, epics, hilarity, all that jazz. So many more drawing ideas!

We know that Principal Ziel is actually Draziel (I sort of figured the principal was fishy 'cause I thought his name was a pun on "zeal," but "zeal" can be used as a positive , so I wasn't sure), so that begs the question: did Dregg ever realize that he was facing off against his old principal?

Dregg chose both the medallions (one was to let Arc die but continue the universe, and theother was to create a new universe with a new Arc) meaning that Dregg chose an outcome that let the universe continue while keeping Arc - however, Arc is now Arcana, aka someone who could destroy the universe anyway. I suppose the whole "running away from his consequences" thing was subverted if he chose both medallions - now Dregg has to actually try to continue Angelheart's work in order to let her be reborn again. Even then, letting Arcana become reborn is a gamble: you either get an Arc who's "purified" from the sins of the world, or you get a violently destructive Arcana running on apocalypse juice. Maybe that was the effect of getting the two medallions? To buy time until the "end of the world," and depending on Dregg's actions the world would get a happily ever after (the return of Arc with no consequences) or a kick in the face (getting Arcana instead).

Death just wants to start over. He's tired of seeing Arc corrupt herself from humanity's sins, so he just wants to start everything over again as soon as that happens. Like, he knows what will happen: Arc will inevitably turn into Arcana and cause a lot of destruction and suffering, and Death does not want to deal with (I'm gonna say...best friend, I dunno) turning evil for the 319309192375098196844395th time and having to do the paperwork for all the dead dudes caught up in the mess. He wants Arc to get better - that is to say, he'll take any Arc as long as it's not an Arc that corrupts herself again, or he'll take a dead Arc that can't corrupt herself either. By contrast, Dregg is fighting for a specific Arc (Angelheart, to be precise) because she was his best friend and doubled as a mother figure and an insanely important component of the universe's workings. Death is uncertain of the future here because Dregg chose both medallions - by choosing both, Dregg was kind of making a gamble. Death previously knew that it would be corrupt Arc over and over again, but he has absolutely no clue what will happen now. Every time Dregg dies, Death debates him. If Dregg wins, the uncertain future will progress. If Death wins though, he can restart the universe and for sure prevent the rebirth of Arcana.

In other news, Gru knows about Dregg's actual potential, and Dregg is overpowered af. Teleportation and sheer mind-screwiness (or maybe it only seemed like teleportation, but it was just a lot of mind-screw)? Gru also mentioned that Dregg's Mritrunjay was strong enough to affect him, implying that Gru is naturally resistant to illusions such as that. That scene of Dregg utterly destroying Ziel was one of the episode's best moments, along with most of the rest of the episode.
Also, what exactly is the deal with Dregg's immortality? Here, he resurrected pretty quickly, which is pretty synonymous with the events of Death Wish, but in the same body, which is decidedly not along the events of Death Wish. Unless Satan teleported Dregg to the beach in the process of resurrecting him. Also, in this instance, when Dregg resurrected, he regenerated as well, somehow healing that awful head wound (that whole scene of him having his head bashed in freaked me out, ngl, and my headcanon is that the regeneration can't exactly wash away the blood, so that stays) but in Death Wish, hedidn't regenerate his aneurysm from the Draziel fight. His fall damage seemed to have disappeared, though. Maybe the aneurysm was caused by supernatural methods, so it can't regenerate?

Aw, but Polly's possible future wife! That's so sweet. I hope she stayed for the glasses. (imagine her swooning at the displays when Polly goes for eye checkups or whatever)

Gangster Dregg is forever burned into my memory, and so was that bank CEO who apparently kept more than 300+ pages of porn in his office. Christ Almighty, why. I think the Bloodhounds/Wereclaws deserve some Team Skull-esque artwork, and that Dregg has a terrible experience with teachers. No, seriously. One dated a serial killer, another was just plain Umbridging, and the principal was running a mafia and turned Dregg’s head inside out, brain matter dripping from the hammer and everything. Wonder how Rightia dealt with the fallout from that last one. Must've been quite a scandal, if you ask me.

You've finally reached the end! Give yourself a pat on the back if you actually read all of it - you deserve it for sitting through my word dump. Anyway, I might turn that bottom right doodle into a full-length sketch one of these days. I rather like it.

  1. Well, maybe he had to go through hell this time because he was not killed by a mortal. He was killed by a fallen god, which maybe hijacked the normal process. Arc also warned Dregg about Death's champion at some point, so maybe Draziel is related to the champion thing.
